Water Safety and Learning to Swim and CPR Classes in View

Hello Everyone,

Now that the summer is here, many of you will be near some water for your vacation or backyard pools.

It is never too late to wear your swimming vest if boating and if you are in a pool that have a deep water level when you don’t know how to swim.

Every year, many children and adults drown because they don’t take the precautions and use safety gear.  I’ve always been an advocate of taking swimming lessons as a plan on your menu as a goal.  Personally, I believe it should be mandatory.  We all know someone who have drowned and wonder how it could have been prevented.

Believe it or not, some kids tell their friends they can swim and they can’t, when one of the friends, kidding around pushes him or her in the water and that friend drowns. Not funny when you can’t swim to go get them or there’s no one else around to save the life as well.  If at the shore or lake, follow the rules. The lifeguards are only there at a specific time, and most lifeguards return to college earlier than elementary schools.

Safety guards around your pools and if you watch the recent news on pool structure is a drowning risk for small children who can climb and stand on the side wrap-around panels and get in.  Alarms near your pool is helpful as well as locks with alarms on fences as well as cameras with alarms.

Drinking alcohol at a pool party should be kept to a minimum or none at all.

Personally, I believe that safety preservers should be attached somewhere to the sides of the pool or even hooked inside the pools all the way around for anyone to reach in the event of an accidental fall-and at night-see-in-the-dark lighting/coloring.

I myself, have this fear of water, though I love being near it, but did take swimming lessons at a local college to learn. Two rounds by the way.  I have no idea where that fear come from, but I know, once you learn, you have a gift of saving a life and your own, in the event you are in a risky situation.

The money spent to save your life and the life of your child, or anyone, Swim Lessons | Take Swimming Classes | Red Cross   is a valuable gift.  Just like learning CPR, you never know if you need to use it, but how great to know it!  Being a nurse, it is mandatory for me to take this course, and I just loved it. Performing CPR on a Baby, and Adult is different. Yes, to renew my CPR certification every 2 years is not bad as there are changes many times in the program. The American Red Cross and The American Heart Assocation have great programs! You can go online and even read the basis of performing CPR. It doesn’t hurt to know something about CPR until you take this very valuable class. It will be fun and informative. (Just to do chest compressions, which circulate the blood through the body and stimulates the heart to start beat, can be life-saving all alone.) Even when the person responds, they will still need that emergency support of EMT and Hospital to stabilize the person’s condition. You must access the safety of the area, before risking your life-as a precaution.

You can check your area for swimming lessons. It’s never too late.

Until you sign up for swimming lesson, start reading about swimming and swimming safety. Your life is very important!

Keeping Your Child Busy and Safe For The Summer

LETS HAVE A FUN AND SAFE SUMMER!

With the cost of everything going up, here are some suggestions you might want to be mindful about.  It’s the simple things in life that can be the most fun.  Teach your child something new and reward them when done well- or at least if they tried. You are their first teacher. Don’t stop now.

Hello Friends,
Your children are so precious to you and now that the summer is here, what do you do to keep them busy and safe.

One of the things I believe, is that everyone should learn how to swim just as we are expected to learn how to walk.
If you and your child do not know how to swim, why not sign up somewhere for swimming lessons. It will be fun and life enhancing-not to include life-saving.
I have lost 2 relatives through not being able to swim. One was pushed in the water by friends at the age of 13, and the other slipped from a dock from which his graduation party was being held. No one even seen him go in until his body rose to the surface.
I myself had this fear of the water, but decided to take lessons. I ended up taking 2 rounds of swimming because, I was not there yet-though I’m a good floater and believe I can hold my own. Hopefully, I can get back in the water and continue with lessons.
Do consider taking swimming lessons and involving everyone you know to do so. Water therapy is great for many aches and pain and if you have a problem with movement,
such as in any muscle weakness, water therapy can be your friend-or just to keep in shape.
My other suggestion is not to go near the water alone. Be safe by having a friend or associate be with you. Make sure your pool gate or back door is locked when not in use. Children safety swimming gear is a must if you are having other children over. Make sure to ask if other children or adults who visit your pool-no matter how small-if they can swim or not. If lighting and thunder is occurring, please get everyone out of the water and away from any trees. Children in particular, should play in twos-even if they are walking to the corner store. Be mindful of the time one leaves and one return.  If all else fails in dealing with saving your child’s life,  tell them about the doggy paddling in the water to keep head above water and to scream for help.

!Speaking of  swimming pool gates and doors, why not put an alarm on your gate and  doors so that you will be alerted if any type of movement from those areas.  It could save a life and maybe that of someone you love. ! Be mindful, that other children have been known to wonder into other people’s yards for a swim.

Much of what I have to say about swimming here is more related to swimming pools; if you are thinking of ocean swimming, that is another story of cautions and safety in general.  That includes if the water is contaminated to what to do in the event of rip tide and locations of safety patrolled beaches.

Especially, anyone you know who might live alone who is elderly and health is deteriorating; check on them daily or weekly if need be.
Have a back up plan for emergencies. Know what neighbors you child can go to in the event that you are not home. Have a telephone accessible for your child to call 911 in an emergency.
