Connecting With The Now

Hello Everyone,

With so much going on in the world, it’s hard to focus on what is important.

I would say security is paramount as we see in our daily lives, crime on the rise and in many versions.  Just simply shopping, you need to be concerned about if anyone is following you in the store and when you leave the store.  Just be aware at all times and try to park as close to the store as you can.  Try to shop with another person as well as to go in two’s when jogging in the neighborhood, parks, and wherever you go to enjoy the outdoors.  There are many things you can do to keep yourself safe.

The many factors of safety include ensuring your options in social media privacy on all of them. Have someone check the computer that you can trust to check your privacy setting if you don’t know.  You might want to download a “don’t track me” app from Microsoft to prevent some of the ad sales and marketers from following you.  Change your password every six months or often if you so choose.

We are certainly in the midst of rapid global warming.  Check your insurance to see just what you are covered for. Don’t wait, do it now, because you just don’t know just how climate change could affect you as it has severely affected many people in our country and many other countries as well. It’s all real.  Do send your donations to reliable charities to help when you can, because you never know when you could be next. I donate to the red cross every year even though I am a member of the red cross but not active at present due to working as a nurse with special needs children. The Red Cross is usually the first one on the scene when disasters occur when it’s safe for them to go to help people find shelter, food, medicine, and many other services they might need. Do keep a list of your medicine and your family’s medicines-include allergies in your wallet.  Don’t hurt to list your blood type.

Thank you for visiting my blog. Do return as I will be writing more about this subject in specific.  The major earthquake in Syria and Turkey yesterday, as well as the tornados in the US-affected areas of Florida and forest fires out west, really put things in perspective of the need to prepare and be alert. Many other countries and territories are still in recovery to maintain some form of stability and normalcy to build on. This includes all of the places you know that are in that situation-Haiti, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, and others.

Feel free to write a comment. This was writing off the cuff for now and time is not always on my side, but I did want to keep things moving.

Winter Preparedness Is Vital!

Hello  Everyone,

Yes, we are bombarded with unprecedented storms, hurricanes, and tornados as well as forest fires in some areas of the earth.

The time is now to get ready for all you do to protect yourself, your family, and your home.

Here is a list of things you can do now to get prepared.

  1. The Snow coming:  Get the shovels and salt ready. You can place them in your car and at your home.
  2. Listen to the weather station as often as you can as soon as you hear the alert there and on your phone. (you can sign up for weather alerts on your phone with the various apps to download.  The Google Store is where you check for apps in general. (for those who might not know.)
  3. Pack extra gloves, hats, blankets, and coats in your car as a backup.
  4. Include in your car, healthy snacks, and bottled water. This should ber a go-to for all times.
  5. Extra phone chargers and plugs are wonderful when you need them.
  6. Keep your tank full if you can.
  7. Look for higher grounds if you are in a low-ground area or close to the ocean.  i noticed that with these hurricanes, so many cars were damaged.  If only the push for moving your car to higher grounds was not suggested, let alone yourself! And while we are talking, move the animals to a shelter, even if in another state to protect them.  We must do things differently in the future, because, we just don’t know when and where the next storm will hit.
  8. .  Start sending those pictures to other relatives to preserve your pictures or download them on a disc that has a lot of GB and/or sent to the cloud-include all important documents as well.
  9. Waterproof safety boxes are great and finding a place to either bury in the ground or sent to a safe place is an option.
  10. Medication is important to have ready and in a waterproof container.  List all of your meds, medical contacts, medical history, and anything important to you on paper, take a picture, and include it with the download on a disc. Send a copy to another relative you trust as a backup.
  11. Talk to friends and relatives, about plans of evacuating and possibly moving in with them in the event of an emergency.
  12. Information is everything and your life is important. When they say evacuate, Please Do!
  13.  Helmets make sense to have available considering the number of debree that could hit you outdoors or inside.  Also, wearing boots and changeable clothes will help so if you get on dry ground,  you can get some comfort.
  14. I spoke about placing your personal items in a backpack in case you need to relocate. It frees your hands to hold other things, like your children and pets. Included in your backpack should be PPE we are using in the covid-19  pandemic-gloves, sanitizers, masks and hand wipes. Include a garbage for clothes that might get soil and sandwich bags to store small items.

These are just some reminders that might be useful to think about for the now and the future. Do return for other ideas.

Thank you for visiting my website as I pray for those who lost their loved ones, homes, and livelihood in the recent storms.  My gratitude to all who are on the ground helping in any way they can.  Every little thing one does is appreciated and will help to rebuild their life. Support from others in any form will get many people back to some normalcy if only for a small bit.  Food, water, shelter, and Love are at the top of the list!

The Mariupol Steel Plant Ukrainian Soldiers Great Bravery

The bravery of Ukraine’s Soldiers  Can’t Be Forgotten and all who fought with Them!

All of Ukraine’s soldiers and those who fought and are still fighting,  for they are the bravest people imagined.

It is not wrong to fight for what’s yours as you were given no options.

It is not sad to see the soldiers accept a seize fire over what I would say surrender in order for them to have a chance to live and see their families again.  One day, all of Ukraine’s land will return to them and I believe this, but under another regimen.

I am also pleased to see the other Ukraine released to safety prior to this unforgettable battle.

Putin has put his own people’s lives at risk and death for not reason enough to cause this type of coinage.

The world should not forget this war.  Most of what has happened in war of this sort are that they depend on people forgetting or lacking it up as misinformation. Just like in the Jewish Holocaust. (it didn’t happen) Hopefully, there will be documentary after documentary to tell this story.  Why land is more important than a person’s life, I’ll never know as in this situation the protecting of what’s yours is different from the aggressor, Russia-where even their own people’s lives don’t matter.

This war against Ukraine is a Travesty!

I’m sure there will be many memorials to honor all those people who gave their lives for their homeland and to protect their democracy.  Democracy is a bad word for a dictator.  Democracy is the freedom of mind, heart, and soul to think and respect the rights of others while maintaining yours.

One might win the war, but lose the true value of a person’s soul and spirit when atrocities have been committed against them.

History will repeat itself if you don’t remember all that has occurred as this is a full sample of what is happening in Ukraine.

I thought we were a more intelligent society, that could be diplomatic in cases like this, but it seems that talking was not an option. Killing and destroying was one person’s decision not to follow a diplomatic solution.

This is why all nations bordering the land of Russia should absolutely join NATO!

May God warm the hearts of the survivors of this Unnecessary War!

And may God protect the Russian people who are persecuted for their fight against the Ukrainian people for they have no rights, no voice, and no real life to live as they wish.

Freedom should not be taken for Granted! Anymore!

The War is Not Done, Keep up the support for all the people who are displaced and All the countries that took them in. There will be needs all around and somewhere on this site, I’ll find the link to places you can donate.

CNN.com/Impact  has a donation site as well as others.

Winter Mindful Safety Tips

Greetings to all!

Thank you for visiting my website. I hope you are well and making plans for the Spring.  But let’s enjoy the winter, too.

What I want to speak about are the many things you want to be mindful of as we push forward in 2022.

1.  With the many fires we’ve had from the Christmas season to now, one of the safety factors is having working fire and carbon monoxide detectors.    One tip I have is to place a sticker on the device of the last date you changed your batteries.  If you make this a habit, you will be ahead of the game.   You can also place a sticker on your refrigerator as well.  Not everyone uses the daylight saving times method.

2.  With the crime rate so high, what changes in your life have you made to be safer?  Surely surveillance cameras do help in many ways.  However, many crimes are occurring in shopping centers, and on the road. Do you know what to do if approached by someone who wants your wallet or handbag and car?   The authorities always say to give it to them as your life is more important.  Parking in well-lit areas really is a deterrent. Shopping with a friend can always be helpful. Never leave your child in the car, even for a second, and never leave your car running.  Criminals look for the opportunity to steal from you any chance they get. They sometimes study people well from a distance and have a good idea, who is more vulnerable.

3.  In a storm, make sure you keep your phone fully charged.  Having backup lighting from flashlights, candles, and other sources is a must. Having a generator for power is another option, but it comes with many safety factors.

4. I’ve written about a “Go” bag on my blog. What you put in it are items you might need for a few days away from your house up to being away months. You might want to place in there important documents like your birth certificate, medication list, emergency meds, your insurance companies-life insurance, home insurance- driver’s licenses, and some picture identification.  You might want to include several bottles of water, dry foods, and protein snacks. Now if you have a  “Go” for the home, you might want to make another for the car. The car might be your new home for a few days in a major disaster.

5.  To be mindful, is to also think of others.  Check on neighbors, friends, and relatives who might be elderly or incapacitated in some way. Also, make a plan for your children and for your animals in case of an emergency.  Have a cage ready for your pets with items they need for a few days and a “go” bag for your children.  If you don’t have time to get your “go” bag, remember, much of it can be replaced.    So, be safe and do what’s best for the moment.

6.   Because, we are in this nightmare of a  Pandemic, be safe by keeping up with the news as of any changes made that you need to follow.  Share what information you have with others and don’t be afraid to inquire about anything in question.  I always, say, do your own research and be proactive.

This is it for now.  I wish everyone a safe and beautiful winter and to remember, we have to get through this before we get to that. Live in the moment and make this day count for something beautiful for you or perhaps, for someone else. However, just be mindful of what’s important to you!

Your "Go" Bag

Mindful Tips To Take In Case Of an Emergency

Preparing for an Emergency With a “Go” Bag

Hello Readers and Friends,

How are you doing as we face yet, another battle of the storms? Global warming is hitting hard in the images of unprecedented storms, flooding, tornados, and all that go with it!

Getting involved in a storm with a tornado just down the street is no joke either-along with the threat of a tornado, which did hit several areas in NJ and did unprecedented damage!

A friend of mine in Florida and I were talking about the storms that have been occurring over the recent years, and how devastated people are when they lose everything.  My heart and sympathies go out to them because it could be me!

What we discussed, was the “what if it happens to us?”,  I agreed to take her and her family in if they do get hit with a devasting storm and she said like-wise-if anything happens to me.   I believe this is a good thing to discuss because it would be a part of the emergency place that we all should have.  Who could you move in with if your home is totally or even partially destroyed?

What can you do now to prepare? Even if there are no storms, Making copies of your most important papers and placing them in a waterproof box, can be a real asset. Placing some extra cash in there is also great.

Another thing is that it seems, that access to clean water, can be helpful enough for your family for at least a week.   Sometimes, the emergency crew might not be able to get to you in a timely manner, if you live deep in the woods or country areas with lots of trees.  You can live a long time without food, but not without water.   I would start stocking up a little at a time. You might have to share with your neighbors who might have planned as you.

Preparing your “go” bag is important.  Whatever you need for the next 3  to 7 days.  Extra medicine, clothing, shaving equipment, for some of us, wigs, denture adhesive, mouthwash, deodorants, combs, hand sanitizers, gloves, masks, and whatever you think is important to maintain some sense of comfort.  If you have a Rolodex, take it with you; if you don’t have one, make one.  When the phone loses its charge, at least you have a backup!

Food is important when you are under stress.  Place healthy protein snacks in your “go” bag that will last for 3 to 4 days.  Take a copy of your medications in the event you need to be taken to a hospital.  If injured, you might not go to the hospital of your choice-especially if they are full to capacity or non-functional.  This leads me to say, include an emergency kit of some sort.  Just the basis- bandaids, gauze, tape,  ace wrap, peroxide or witch hazel for cleansing, a topical antibiotic cream, hydrocortisone for itching.  If there is flood water you walk through, who knows what’s in it and so an anti-itch cream is great to have.
Sif Jakobs Jewellery

This might not have anything to do with a storm, but I feel as though that all mothers and perhaps fathers too, should keep a pair of scissors with them. I had an experience where my granddaughter outgrew her baby carrier and she twisted herself in it with the strap pressing on her neck. Cutting the straps was faster than trying to unwrap her. These days, they have the mirrors facing the baby so you can see them as you drive.  I was glad I stopped the car as she was making unusual sounds that even her mother was not aware of something wrong!  Well to Toys r us we went! Car Seat! Car Seat!   Follow your intuition is a good thing even if you are wrong.  There is a 6th sense, yaw.

I hope you think the word “back-up” as we move through the season and pray for the best!  Surely to goodness, we have enough going on as it is.  Though we might lose material things, you can always get them back, but not your life.  For many of us, life will never be the same, but at least you are standing on your own two feet and will make adjustment as time go on.

Please add your comments on this subject. I will update this article from time to time.

Update:

What you prepare for a “go” bag for a child is also important. You might need to add an infants formula, water bottle, diapers, medicines, nose or mouth suction bulb for any secretions from the nose or mouth, clothes, a toy, or book(something from home can mean a lot to anyone who has posted everything), and anything else you might need if you have to go in a hurry to safety.  Eating utensils like a spoon can be helpful for feeding your baby and a sippy cup for drinking that has a built-in straw.

**   Ok, here is one of the best tips of the day for emergencies that I just thought of.  What is it?  It’s a whistle.  Yes!  If you are buried under rubble, hopefully, not, it’s a great thing to have on you or in your bag to let rescuers know where you are.  Guess who’s going to go out to buy one!  Yes, me!

Talk to you soon, meanwhile, go out and make something happen good. Not just for yourself, but for someone who’s feeling pretty down these days.  A smile cost nothing to give at this point. A joke is even better! Laughter is good for the heart and soul!

by Thelma Harcum

Update. . . .

** Speaking of the “Go” Bag, with the recent severe storms we’ve been having lately, it’s not a bad idea for you and your children to have what I believe is easy to carry are, backpacks. Backpacks leave your hands free to carry other things such as a frightened pet who might run away.  Placing them in their cage will be helpful!   Don’t forget to pack a “go” bag for them as well.  Make sure you label everything and also have your pet’s name on their collar along with their address and phone number.  Not a bad idea for children to have an ID on them as well; especially, when you know that there is an imminent storm, tornado, or strong winds in your path.  Unfortunately, many children are lost when there are storms, earthquakes, and tornados. When the weatherman says to “take shelter” ,  please do it, because they have the facts right in front of them and do believe it!  Wherever, you go, keep away from windows!

If you’ve been warned about a severe storm coming your way, evacuate the area if you can and perhaps send your pets and children to another place to live temporarily before the storm.  Every week, check your “go” bag and try not to take anything out of it unless it is expired.  Always water in each bag.

Please return to this article, because, there will be more updates.

Check this site for resources to help you if your home is damaged and you cannot return to live in it.  www.ftc.org   I was very impressed with the information that the website has. You can share the information or copy it and place it in the emergency “go” bag.

Don’t forget to add a garbage bag for dirty clothes in case you need to go to a shelter.

In this day of a pandemic and severe storms occurring at the same time,  it’s all about masking, handwashing, and keeping a distance wherever you are-especially if you are to stay in a shelter.  Even though you are vaccinated, the variants are of a different breed;  mutating stronger to stay alive, which means it wants a host.  Let’s not have that be you!

Stay safe, Be grateful!!

Being Safe In This Era Of Covid Pandemic

Hello all!

I hope you are faring well with all the events of this pass year. We have a vaccine or vaccines, but we have a way to go in that we are uncertain about many things.

Communication and sharing of information is important right now. So keep listening to your news and from any reliable resource out there that could be of help.

As I believe all lives are important, do be on top of what’s good for you in saving you life and the lives of your family. We will get through this.

Truly, we are our brothers keepers. If one is in trouble, we all are in trouble. A Pandemic disease is a clear example of how one thing affects all of us.

I was just off the line to the NJ 211 information resource net work. They have information on their website as well that can help you in many other programs. Check the networks in your areas for more information as we try to get control of this virus, that have affected many nationwide.

Health safety

I pray for those we have losted, their families and loveones. It is sad that we were not notified about this in the beginning as we would have been on top of this situation and not be were we are.

So, don’t waste any time and be proactive about your life! Do it now, not tomorrow.
Also, we all should be grateful to all the scientist and everyone who is fighting the battle as it is all of us. I’m just grateful I got my computer back in working order to type this page, thanks to my brother Frank who is looking for a new job. He’s a tech

guy who is not only smart, but honest and has helped me out of some difficult situations when it come to technology and some personal matters. If you are looking for a tech person to assist you with a problem, or a job call, 856-419-3308 This is a south Jersey area.

I’ll be writing a bit more as time go by. I want to know what you are doing to keep busy during this Pandemic period and are you ideas to keep your children busy.

I’ll talk soon and hope that you continue to follow the CDC guidelines for safety.

Romaine Lettuce Recall

AutoEuro – Best Rates Wordwide

Hello Readers,

Food safety is a concern on all fronts.

Now we have a Romaine Lettuce recall and alerts.

I was in WaWa this morning and see that all of their prepared salads meals were taken out of the refrigerated bin. Thank God they are honoring the alert.

The CDC believes that this E-coli breakout is from outside of Salina California. So far -and the numbers are changing I’m sure by the minute-40 people in 16 states are infected. I also heard on the news that 4 people have died from this E-coli breakout. This alert is important for all to know because of the devastating effect it can have on your health and life. It can cause renal failure and other ailments.

Here are 2 websites you can check out to learn more about this food alert.

www.foodsafewtynews.com

www.consumer affairs.com

They, (the Department of Agricultural Food Safety Inspection Service) recommend you throw out your Romaine lettuce as soon as possible. I’m not sure of how to expose it, because should it not go into the regular trash; I’ll find out for sure.

You should be able to get credit for your purchase of a return. Try to bring back your receipt instead of the lettuce and don’t touch it. I would clean out the refrigerator as well with bleach and perhaps throw out other foods that are in the same area.

Staying safe means also keeping up with reports that are announced as well as those that are announced only for a short period.

Your life matters as well as that of your family. Share your information with others to infor;, thereby; preventing others from getting sick.

Safety When Bike Riding At Night

Its been a while since I’ve been on a bike but recently, I see more and more people riding bikes-perhaps for transportation, perhaps for fun. Many of the riders I see lately appears to be older adults.

Bike riding is surely good for the environment and for keeping in shape, but being safe while doing so is of the most utmost importance.

What I’m seeing is some bikers don’t have any type of reflector or light on their bike. The night visibility is almost nil in some areas of the road- worse, is when I see a moble wheelchair going down the street with no lights or reflectors on the vehicle and poor street visibility. I’ve had an OMG moment several times and I’m thankful I didn’t hit this person when I was driving my car near my home.

Over 857 Bicyclists were killed in traffic crashes in 2018.

Safety in driving any mobile or pedal vehicle is important. Driving a little slower at night is always a good thing- preventing an accident that could injure and even kill someone.

Hopefully, a law will be passed that will require all moving vehicles have some sort of light or reflectors on them.

Even if you are walking at night, there are reflectors you can purchase that will let others know that you there. Just a simple glow in the dark sticker can be lifesaving where you can place them on your bike, front, back and sides for others to see you.

We all can be an advocate for those people who are mobilizing in the dark without safety in mind. If you can, have a conversation with that person and even offer information where they can purchase a safety item for their bike. There are many bike/cyclist groups and bike shops that can educate you, your friends, and your family about more bike safety tips.

TicketNetwork – Huge selection of tickets for Concerts, Sports, and Theater events

With the holidays coming, gift shopping could include such items for someone you know that could use safety items for their bike or mobile vehicle.

Helmets are the first line of defense in bike safety.

For more information about Bike Safety, you can visit the link below. There are all sorts of stats about this sport that is important for Cyclist Safety from the NHTSA (NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION).
